About WhisperPower equipment

  • 01

WhisperPower lists the M-SQ as a Super Quiet marine generator range for commercial and recreational applications, operating at fixed 1,500 or 1,800 rpm.

  • 02

WhisperPower lists indirect water cooling and DDC controls as standard on M-SQ generators. Deep Sea controls with internet connectivity are listed as an option.

  • 03

The Piccolo marine generator range uses a compact permanent-magnet alternator positioned behind the engine rather than a fixed-speed alternator at the flywheel. WhisperPower states that generator rpm can be set for a balance of output, noise and vibration.

  • 04

WhisperPower states that the M-GV 3 has adjustable speed from 1,500 to 2,500 rpm and a 24/48 VDC output. Its product page says this model has been replaced by the Piccolo GV 3, which matters when identifying older installations.

What we do on WhisperPower equipment

  1. 01

    Planned servicing

We service the generator against the manufacturer schedule, its operating hours and its installed configuration. The visit covers accessible engine, fluid, filter, drive and mounting checks, followed by a running check where safe.

  2. 02

    Fault diagnosis

Our engineers start with the captain’s account, control-panel information and a visual inspection. They then test the starting, engine and electrical systems in a controlled sequence to identify the cause rather than change parts by assumption.

  3. 03

    Cooling and exhaust

We inspect the raw-water path, coolant circuit, hoses, heat exchanger condition and exhaust water injection where fitted. These checks are important after periods of heavy summer use or following a temperature alarm.

  4. 04

    Fuel and starting systems

We trace fuel supply and air ingress, assess battery condition and connections, and test the starting circuit. Leaks, restrictions and poor connections are rectified once the fault has been established.

  5. 05

    Controls and electrical systems

We investigate control-panel alarms, shutdown inputs, AC output and, on DC Genverter installations, charging and associated DC connections. Output and protection checks are made under an appropriate load when conditions permit.

  6. Book online, upload photos of the problem and our AI technical assistant asks the follow-up questions an engineer would ask. Our team receives a structured job brief, so the right technician arrives with the right parts.

Common faults and what usually causes them

It cranks but will not start. We first check the start battery, connections, stop circuit and available fuel supply. We then look for fuel restriction or air ingress, and confirm that the control system is permitting a start.
It starts, then stops on an alarm. We record the alarm text or code before clearing it, then check fluid levels, visible leaks, cooling flow and the relevant shutdown circuit. Repeated starts before the cause is known can obscure the fault or cause further damage.
It runs but there is no usable AC supply or DC charging. We check the control state, breakers and protection devices, then measure generator output at the correct points. On DC systems, we also inspect charging connections, battery voltage and the associated conversion equipment where fitted.
It is running hot or the raw-water discharge is weak.We first check the seawater intake, seacock position, strainer, pump condition and hose run. We then assess coolant level, heat exchanger restriction and exhaust injection, with the set stopped and made safe before opening any part of the system.

This is a guide, not a diagnosis. If anything affects safety, stop and call us on +34 971 251 374.

What to send us

The more of this we have, the better our chances of arriving with the right parts. The online booking asks for it step by step.

  • A clear photo of the generator data plate, including model and serial number.
  • Current running hours and the last known service date.
  • Photos of the control panel, alarm or fault code, and any visible leak or damage.
  • When the fault occurs, the connected load, and the yacht’s exact location and access details.

Questions captains ask

Yes. Our engineers attend yachts at berths, shipyards and anchorages in Mallorca and throughout the Balearic Islands. Tell us the yacht’s position, access arrangements, whether shore power is available and whether the generator is safe to start. Use online booking to send photos or call the 24/7 emergency line for a breakdown.

A planned service is set against the manufacturer schedule, the model, operating hours and fault history. Our engineers inspect accessible engine, cooling, fuel, starting and electrical items, then run the set where safe to do so. We report findings and provide a quote before chargeable repair work proceeds.

Do not keep restarting a set that has shut down on a temperature, oil-pressure or electrical alarm. Record the alarm or take a panel photo, note running load and check for obvious leaks or loss of raw-water discharge only if it is safe. Send those details with the model and location when booking, or call the 24/7 emergency line.
