Blueward Marine services and repairs main engines on motor and sailing yachts from our base in Palma: diagnostics, scheduled servicing, cooling and fuel systems, overhauls and breakdown repairs. We work on MTU, MAN, Caterpillar, Volvo Penta, Cummins, Yanmar, John Deere, Scania, Nanni and Steyr engines at marinas across Mallorca and the Balearics.

Most engine trouble starts small: an impeller left in a season too long, a heat exchanger quietly scaling up, a fuel filter nobody logged. Found at the berth, it's a morning's work. Found at cruising speed halfway to Ibiza with guests on board, it's a very different day.
We look after main engines the way a good chief engineer would. Service to the manufacturer's schedule and the engine's real hours, record what was done and what was found, and tell you clearly what needs doing now and what can wait for the winter.
Engine alarms and electronic fault codes read and traced to the cause, with temperatures, pressures and boost checked instead of just clearing the code.
Oil and filters, fuel filters and water separators, raw-water impellers, belts, coolant, anodes and valve clearances, done to the manufacturer's intervals and logged.
Heat exchangers, aftercoolers, oil and gear coolers cleaned or replaced. Sea strainers, seacocks and raw-water pumps checked too, since most overheating starts here.
Filtration, lift pumps, injectors and injection pumps, plus tracking down air leaks and contaminated diesel: water, sludge and diesel bug.
Top-end and full overhauls, turbochargers, cylinder heads and engine mounts, planned around your season or a haul-out.
Engines that won't start, overheat or lose power, attended at the berth or wherever the yacht is in the Balearics. The emergency line runs 24/7 with a 2-hour response.
| What you notice | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| Temperature climbs at cruising speed but is fine at idle | Usually restricted raw-water flow: a worn impeller, a partly blocked strainer, or a fouled heat exchanger or aftercooler. Check the strainer first. |
| Can't reach full rpm or feels down on power | Clogged fuel filters, air intake or turbo problems, or simply a fouled hull and propellers. We check the engine side before blaming the bottom. |
| Black smoke under load | More fuel than the air can burn: dirty air filters, a turbo or aftercooler problem, worn injectors, or an overloaded engine. |
| White smoke that doesn't clear once warm | Unburnt fuel from injection or compression problems, or coolant getting where it shouldn't. Investigate it promptly rather than running on. |
| Coolant level keeps dropping | An external leak at a hose or pump, a failed heat-exchanger tube stack, or a head gasket. A pressure test tells us which. |
| Alarm or fault code on the engine display | Photograph the exact code and note when it appears. On electronically managed engines it usually points to the right sensor or system before we arrive. |

Common on larger motor yachts and superyachts. The engines are electronically managed, so alarm history and fault codes are where diagnosis starts.
High-output V8 and V12 diesels behind many fast motor yachts. At sustained high load, cooling, turbochargers and aftercoolers need the most care.
C-series engines such as the C12, C18 and C32, fitted to a wide range of motor yachts from production builds to custom.
From conventional shaft installations to IPS pod drives. On IPS the pods have their own service items as well as the engines.
Cummins engines on many motor yachts, and Yanmar as the usual auxiliary on sailing yachts and catamarans, plus higher-output Yanmar engines on motor yachts.
John Deere and Scania for heavy-duty use, Nanni diesels built on Kubota and Toyota bases, and Steyr's compact high-output engines, often on tenders.
Long runs between Palma, Cabrera and Ibiza, with seawater in the mid to high twenties by August, push cooling systems hardest exactly when the season is busiest. A spring service that covers impellers, heat exchangers and anodes costs far less than a breakdown in August.
The more of this we have, the better our chances of arriving with the right parts. The online booking asks for it step by step.
Book online, upload photos of the problem and our AI technical assistant asks the follow-up questions an engineer would ask. Our team receives a structured job brief, so the right technician arrives with the right parts.

MTU, MAN, Caterpillar (CAT), Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Cummins, John Deere, Scania, Nanni and Steyr Motors. If your engine isn't on the list, send us the make and model and we'll tell you whether we can help.
Yes. Engine work is normally done on board wherever the yacht is berthed. We're based in Palma and cover marinas across Mallorca and the Balearics. Larger parts such as heat exchangers or cylinder heads can be taken ashore for cleaning or reconditioning.
Follow the manufacturer's schedule, which is set in running hours with a time limit, whichever comes first. Yachts in Mallorca often do few hours but sit in warm water for months, so impellers, anodes and coolant can fall due on time even when the hours are low.
Reduce load and, if it's safe, stop the engine. With it stopped, check the sea strainer for weed or plastic, make sure the seacock is open, and think back to whether raw water was coming out of the exhaust. If those look fine, the impeller or heat exchanger is next, and that's a job for us. At sea, call +34 971 251 374.
Yes: top-end and full overhauls, turbochargers, injectors and cylinder heads. We plan them around your season or haul-out and give you a detailed quote before any work starts.
