We service and repair yacht generators by Onan, Fischer Panda, Kohler (now Rehlko) and WhisperPower: scheduled servicing, shutdowns and alarms, cooling and exhaust, fuel and starting problems, and unstable power. The work is done on board at marinas across Mallorca and the Balearics, and there's a 24/7 line for breakdowns.

On most yachts the generator works harder than the main engines. It runs at anchor, overnight and through the hottest part of the afternoon, carrying the air conditioning, the galley and the watermaker. When it stops, most of the yacht stops with it.
Generator faults usually show up as a shutdown with an alarm, a refusal to start, or power that won't stay steady. We trace them to the cause, whether that's raw water, fuel, the governor and voltage regulator, or the way heavy loads are switched on board.
Oil and filters, fuel filters, raw-water impeller, belts, coolant, anodes and valve clearances, plus a look at the exhaust mixing elbow, where many generator problems begin.
High-temperature, low-oil-pressure and overspeed shutdowns traced to the real cause, not just reset. Sensors and shutdown switches are checked as well as the engine.
Power that drifts or dips when big loads start: governor, voltage regulator (AVR) and excitation checks, and advice on staggering compressors and other heavy loads.
Strainers, impellers, heat exchangers, mixing elbows and anti-siphon valves. Generators run long hours in warm water, so the cooling side gets the closest attention.
Air in the fuel, blocked filters, lift pumps, glow plugs, starters and stop solenoids: the usual reasons a generator cranks but won't fire.
Top-end and full overhauls or, when repair no longer makes sense, honest advice on the right replacement.
| What you notice | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| Runs for a while, then shuts down on high temperature | Restricted raw-water flow: a worn impeller (missing vanes end up in the heat exchanger), a blocked strainer, a scaled heat exchanger or a seacock not fully open. |
| Cranks but won't start | Usually fuel: air in the system after a filter change, a blocked filter or a fuel valve left closed. Glow plugs and the stop solenoid are the other common culprits. |
| Lights flicker or AC units trip when something big switches on | Voltage or frequency dipping under load: governor or AVR settings, a generator close to its limit, or several heavy loads starting at once. |
| Black smoke or soot around the exhaust outlet | Overload, a restricted air intake, or injector problems. |
| Water in the oil, or steam from the exhaust | Stop running it and call us. A failed exhaust elbow, a stuck anti-siphon valve or a heat-exchanger leak can let water into the engine. |
| Runs for days on very light load | Light running builds up carbon and unburnt fuel in the exhaust, known as wet stacking. Running it properly loaded from time to time helps, and we can advise on load management. |

Cummins Onan marine generators, widely fitted to motor yachts. We handle servicing, shutdowns, controls and repairs.
Compact, sound-insulated German generators. The iSeries runs at variable speed through an inverter, which changes how faults show up and how they're diagnosed.
Kohler's marine generators now carry the Rehlko name after Kohler Energy's 2024 rebrand. The engines and their service needs are the same.
Dutch generators, including variable-speed Genverter models and DC generators, often installed alongside battery and inverter systems.
Other brands we service
At anchor off Mallorca in high summer the generator may run most of the day just for the air conditioning, drawing in seawater in the mid to high twenties. That's when a tired impeller or a scaled heat exchanger shows itself. If yours runs long hours, have the cooling side checked before the season and again around mid-summer.
The more of this we have, the better our chances of arriving with the right parts. The online booking asks for it step by step.
Book online, upload photos of the problem and our AI technical assistant asks the follow-up questions an engineer would ask. Our team receives a structured job brief, so the right technician arrives with the right parts.

Most often it's raw-water flow: a worn impeller, a blocked strainer, a scaled heat exchanger or a seacock that isn't fully open. If the impeller has lost vanes, the pieces have to be found and removed from the heat exchanger, or the problem comes straight back.
Go by the manufacturer's schedule in running hours, with a time limit for items such as impellers, coolant and anodes. On yachts in Mallorca the generator often clocks far more hours than the main engines, so it usually needs servicing more often.
It may be. A noticeable dip when a large compressor starts can mean the governor or voltage regulator needs adjusting, the generator is close to its capacity, or too many loads start together. We measure what happens under real load before changing anything.
