About Heinen & Hopman equipment

  • 01

Heinen & Hopman describes the cooling plant as a main air-conditioning unit. Its cooling-plant page identifies the compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator as the four main components.

  • 02

For vessels with several air-handling units or longer runs between the plant and air-handling units, Heinen & Hopman describes chilled-water units using chilled water, usually with glycol, between the evaporator and the air-handling-unit cooling coil.

  • 03

Heinen & Hopman fan coil units are designed for maritime use and are available in several types. The manufacturer states that each fan coil can be individually controlled by a thermostat.

  • 04

Heinen & Hopman DB air-handling units are designed for marine applications, including yachts, and are compact for constrained installation spaces. The manufacturer lists fans, filters, cooling coils, heaters, V-belts and sensors among air-handling-unit components.

What we do on Heinen & Hopman equipment

  1. 01

    Planned HVAC servicing

We inspect, clean and test the installed air-conditioning plant in line with the manufacturer schedule and its operating condition. The scope is agreed from the equipment aboard and the recorded findings.

  2. 02

    Cooling circuit diagnosis

We trace poor cooling through the chilled-water circuit, coils and heat-rejection side as fitted. Temperatures, flow and operating readings are used to define the repair.

  3. 03

    Air-side maintenance

We service air-handling units and fan coils, checking filters, fans, coils, duct connections and condensate drainage. Restricted air delivery is investigated at the affected spaces and plant.

  4. 04

    Controls and electrical checks

We investigate thermostat or controller demand, sensor signals, power supply and protective trips. We then repair wiring, connections or control components where the fault is confirmed.

  5. 05

    Lay-up recommissioning

Before the season or after lay-up, we run the system, check circulation and drainage, and confirm cooling operation at the installed units. Any defects found are set out before corrective work.

  6. Book online, upload photos of the problem and our AI technical assistant asks the follow-up questions an engineer would ask. Our team receives a structured job brief, so the right technician arrives with the right parts.

Common faults and what usually causes them

Several cabins are warm although the air conditioning is running. We first compare chilled-water supply and return temperatures, then check circulation, strainers, air in the circuit and valve operation. At the affected fan coil, we check filter condition, fan operation and airflow.
The chilled-water plant has stopped or is showing an alarm. We record the alarm before resetting anything, then check incoming electrical supply, safety circuits, cooling-water flow and the plant’s operating readings. The fault is isolated before any restart is attempted.
There is little or no air from an outlet. We check whether the relevant fan coil or air-handling unit has a control demand and whether its fan is running. Filters, dampers, duct restrictions and electrical connections are then examined.
Water is dripping from a grille or from beneath an air-conditioning unit.We check the condensate tray, drain line, trap and fall first, along with coil condition and air flow. This establishes whether the problem is drainage, poor airflow or an operating-condition issue.

What to send us

The more of this we have, the better our chances of arriving with the right parts. The online booking asks for it step by step.

  • A photo of the Heinen & Hopman equipment data plate, including model and serial number.
  • Current running hours and a short note of recent service or repairs.
  • Photos of alarm or control-panel displays, plus any fault codes.
  • When the fault occurs and the yacht’s berth, shipyard or anchorage location.

Questions captains ask

Yes. Our engineers can work aboard at berths, shipyards and anchorages in Mallorca and throughout the Balearic Islands. Send the yacht location, access details and a clear description of the HVAC fault when booking. For a breakdown, call the 24/7 emergency line so we can assess the job and arrange attendance.

Work starts with the actual plant arrangement, its current condition and the manufacturer schedule. We inspect the cooling plant, chilled-water circuit, air-handling units, fan coils, controls and drainage as applicable. Findings are recorded, then any repair scope is discussed before work proceeds. The exact task list depends on the installed equipment and fault history.

For a shutdown or active alarm, call the 24/7 emergency line on +34 971 251 374. The published emergency response is within two hours. Photograph the control display and note the time, operating mode and any recent electrical or water-system changes. Do not keep resetting a safety trip.
