About CMC Marine equipment

  • 01

Stabilis Electra is CMC Marine’s electric fin stabiliser range. Its HS system is optimised for planing yachts, while LR is designed for displacement and semi-displacement yachts.

  • 02

The HS and LR actuator specifications list brushless motors with electromagnetic brakes. They also list tapered roller bearings and double-lip seals, details relevant to condition checks.

  • 03

Waveless STAB is CMC Marine’s compact range of electrically actuated fin stabilisers.

  • 04

CMC Marine’s ARGO can control up to eight independent surfaces and integrates fin and rudder control. It combines stabiliser and rudder action in autopilot mode.

What we do on CMC Marine equipment

  1. 01

    Scheduled servicing

We carry out condition checks and maintenance in line with the manufacturer schedule and the equipment fitted. This includes a planned review of actuator, mechanical and control-system condition.

  2. 02

    Electrical fault finding

We examine incoming supply, protective devices, connections and motor-control circuits before replacing components. Tests are recorded against the fault report and operating condition.

  3. 03

    Fin actuator checks

We inspect accessible fin assemblies, bearings, seals, fasteners and evidence of water ingress or oil leakage. Where inspection needs the yacht out of the water, we define the required access before work begins.

  4. 04

    Controls and commissioning

We investigate panel messages, mode selection, sensor inputs and communication issues, then confirm stable operation after repair. On ARGO-fitted yachts, we assess stabiliser and rudder control behaviour as an integrated system.

  5. 05

    Lay-up return checks

Before the season or after lay-up, we check system condition, re-energise methodically and test functions when safe. This helps identify faults before a departure or charter run.

  6. Book online, upload photos of the problem and our AI technical assistant asks the follow-up questions an engineer would ask. Our team receives a structured job brief, so the right technician arrives with the right parts.

Common faults and what usually causes them

The stabiliser panel shows an alarm or the system will not enter its operating mode.We record the exact message, panel indication, supply voltage and frequency, protective devices, control power and any interlocks. We then establish whether the issue is present on one side or throughout the system.
One fin does not deploy, retract or follow the other. We first check the commanded mode, possible mechanical obstruction, actuator connections, motor brake circuit and position feedback. We then inspect accessible shaft and seal areas for leakage or physical damage.
The yacht rolls more than usual, either underway or at anchor. We confirm that the correct mode is selected and compare fin response and position indication from side to side. We then review supply stability, control inputs and fin condition, allowing for weather and loading conditions.
The system trips when a generator is loaded, or after it has been running. We start with supply quality at the system input, protective devices, connections, ventilation around electrical equipment and signs of heat. We review running conditions and recorded alarm history before targeted testing.

What to send us

The more of this we have, the better our chances of arriving with the right parts. The online booking asks for it step by step.

  • Photograph of the data plate showing the model and serial number.
  • System running hours and the date of its last recorded service.
  • Photos of the control panel, alarm or fault codes, and any visible leakage.
  • Whether the fault occurs underway, at anchor or during start-up, plus the yacht’s location and access details.

Questions captains ask

Yes. Our engineers can attend yachts at berths, shipyards and anchorages in Mallorca and throughout the Balearic Islands. Tell us the location, access arrangements and whether the fins can be safely inspected. For a berth visit, send a photo of the control display and the equipment data plate before we attend.

The scope follows the manufacturer schedule and the system fitted. We inspect the fin actuators and accessible seals, review mechanical condition, electrical supply and control indications, then test operation where conditions allow. We record findings and separate work needed now from items to plan for the next maintenance period.

If an alarm appears or fin movement is abnormal, note the message, operating mode and whether the fault occurs underway or at anchor. Do not keep resetting a recurring alarm. Send panel photographs and the model and serial number when booking. For an urgent breakdown, call +34 971 251 374. Our published emergency response is within two hours.
