Fairline yacht service in Mallorca

Blueward Marine services and repairs Fairline Squadron 78 yachts in Mallorca, covering MAN and Caterpillar main engines, twin generators, chilled-water air conditioning, hydraulics and stabilisation. Our Palma workshop and mobile engineers support fault-finding, planned maintenance and refit work across the yacht’s machinery and technical systems.

Fairline began in Oundle, Britain, in 1967 and continues to build in Oundle today.

Fairline yachts in the Bluebnc managed fleet

Bluebnc Yachting, our sister company, manages these yachts in Mallorca and works with Blueward Marine as its engineering company. Yacht figures come from each yacht's public Bluebnc listing; model figures come from the builder documents and tests listed at the foot of the page. Bluebnc Yachting

The Squadron 78 Gen 2 was produced from 2012-2018 with published choices of twin MAN V12-1360 engines at 1,360 hp each or twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT D01 engines at 1,600 bhp each. Archived Fairline material records twin generators, chilled-water air conditioning, central hydraulics and optional Seakeeper stabilisation. Bluebnc lists PAPAMARES as a 2017, 24.1 m Squadron 78 Custom with twin Caterpillar engines and stabilisation underway and at anchor.

First checks on this model

  • Record both engine serial numbers, ratings, hours and ECM faults, then inspect raw-water pumps, heat exchangers, charge-air cooling, exhausts and fuel filters.
  • Load-test both generators separately and together, recording voltage, frequency, temperatures, charging performance, raw-water flow and changeover behaviour under realistic electrical demand.
  • Trace the chilled-water circuit, clean seawater strainers, inspect pump condition and flow, verify chiller pressures, and check air-handler temperatures and condensate drainage.
  • Operate the hydraulic transom gate and cycle the submersible platform, then inspect reservoir level, fluid condition, filters, hoses, fittings, controls and actuator movement.

Published specifications change with build year and options. Before ordering parts we confirm engine, drive and equipment serial numbers on board.

About Fairline

  • 01

Fairline began in Oundle in 1967, when the GRP Fairline 19 launched, and it continues building there today. The Squadron range started in 1991, placing the Squadron 78 within Fairline’s established flybridge line. The Gen 2 model was a 2012-2018 GRP yacht. Its flybridge layout means upper-helm controls, machinery ventilation and distributed pipe and cable runs must be considered during fault-finding.

  • 02

Published Squadron 78 engine choices were twin MAN V12-1360 or Caterpillar C32 ACERT D01 units. Archived Fairline material also records twin generators, chilled-water air conditioning, central hydraulics and optional Seakeeper stabilisation. In Mallorca, warm seawater and summer engine-room temperatures increase cooling demands. Strainers, heat exchangers and seawater pumps need close attention where sand or Posidonia restricts flow during short turnaround windows.

Bluebnc Yachting manages PAPAMARES in its Mallorca fleet and works with Blueward Marine as its marine engineering company. Bluebnc lists the yacht as a 2017 Fairline Squadron 78 Custom with twin Caterpillar engines and stabilisation underway and at anchor. This page describes applicable technical support and does not attribute any particular service or repair to that yacht.

Systems on these Fairline models

  1. 01

    Main engine cooling

The Squadron 78’s published choices are twin MAN V12-1360 or twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT D01 engines. Begin with fault history, fluid condition and the seawater side, then inspect heat exchangers, charge-air cooling, belts, exhausts and fuel supply. In Mallorca’s summer heat, clean cooling surfaces and unrestricted ventilation are central to maintaining stable temperatures under load.

  2. 02

    Generator power

Archived Fairline material specifies twin generators, making independent availability and consistent output important checks. Run each set separately and together, record voltage and frequency stability, and inspect raw-water flow, wet exhausts, mounts, batteries and charging. Reliable changeover matters when summer turnaround windows leave little time to trace an intermittent electrical supply fault.

  3. 03

    Chilled-water cooling

The Squadron 78 uses chilled-water air conditioning. First inspect the seawater strainer, raw-water pump, condenser flow and chiller controls, followed by circulation pumps, expansion arrangements, insulation, air handlers and condensate drains. Warm seawater reduces heat rejection, while Posidonia and sand can restrict intake flow and produce pressure trips during sustained summer operation.

  4. 04

    Central hydraulic systems

Archived Fairline material records a central hydraulic system, hydraulic transom gate and submersible bathing platform. Start with reservoir level, fluid condition, filters, pump noise, pressure stability and visible hose deterioration. Cycle each fitted function while monitoring the power pack, valves and actuators. Summer heat can expose marginal cooling, ageing seals and pressure loss under repeated operation.

Questions captains ask

Fairline published twin MAN V12-1360 engines at 1,360 hp each and twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT D01 engines at 1,600 bhp each. Bluebnc lists PAPAMARES with twin Caterpillar engines. Engine work should start with serial numbers, ECM history, hours, cooling condition and loaded temperature and pressure checks.

Archived Fairline material offered optional Seakeeper gyro stabilisation for the Squadron 78. Bluebnc lists PAPAMARES as stabilised both underway and at anchor. For PAPAMARES, test both listed operating modes and inspect alarms, electrical supply, cooling, controls and service history before planning maintenance or investigating reduced stabilisation performance.

The model’s chilled-water system depends on adequate seawater flow and effective heat transfer. Inspect and clean strainers, check the raw-water pump and condenser, record operating pressures and temperatures, then assess circulation pumps and air handlers. Posidonia, sand and warm summer seawater can reduce flow or cooling capacity, particularly during prolonged operation.
