Riva yacht service in Mallorca

Blueward Marine services and repairs Riva 44 Rivarama yachts across Mallorca, covering MAN main engines, ZF transmissions, shaft lines, air conditioning and powered deck hydraulics. Mobile engineers support planned maintenance, fault finding and refit work from the Palma workshop.

Pietro Riva opened the Sarnico boatyard in Italy in 1842; Riva has been part of Ferretti Group since 2000.

Riva yachts in the Bluebnc managed fleet

Bluebnc Yachting, our sister company, manages these yachts in Mallorca and works with Blueward Marine as its engineering company. Yacht figures come from each yacht's public Bluebnc listing; model figures come from the builder documents and tests listed at the foot of the page. Bluebnc Yachting

The published 2003 test machinery comprises twin 700 hp MAN D2876LE401 diesel inboards, ZF-3251VTS dual-speed transmissions and four-blade bronze propellers; a 2013 Ferretti Group record identifies V Drive. JAD & JULIA is a 2008 example listed at 13.4 m with 1,400 HP total, consistent with the published twin 700 hp package. Its listing also includes an electro-hydraulic bimini, concealed Besenzoni passerelle and electric swim ladder.

First checks on this model

  • Inspect both engine seawater strainers, impellers, coolers and exhaust elbows for salt deposits, restricted flow and signs of overheating after summer operation.
  • Check ZF transmission oil condition, cooler integrity, mountings and engagement behaviour, then investigate any delay, noise or vibration before a sea trial.
  • Measure shaft run-out and inspect four-blade propellers, shaft seals and engine mounts, recording vibration at representative engine speeds under load.
  • Cycle the electro-hydraulic canopy and Besenzoni passerelle fully, checking fluid level, hose condition, cylinder leakage, limit switches and secure stowage.

Published specifications change with build year and options. Before ordering parts we confirm engine, drive and equipment serial numbers on board.

About Riva

  • 01

Riva began at Pietro Riva’s Sarnico boatyard in 1842 and moved into fibreglass construction in 1969. Since 2000 it has formed part of Ferretti Group, with the Group Engineering Department and Officina Italiana Design involved in modern production. For service planning, the machinery package and powered deck systems are the main practical focus.

  • 02

The 44 Rivarama combines twin diesel inboards with ZF transmissions, bronze propellers and, in a later Ferretti Group record, a V Drive arrangement. In Mallorca, warm seawater and summer engine-room heat put cooling flow, exchanger cleanliness and ventilation under pressure. Posidonia and sand can load strainers, while short turnaround periods make early investigation of leakage, vibration and hydraulic faults particularly useful.

  • 03

JAD & JULIA, a 2008 Riva 44 Rivarama, is in the Bluebnc Yachting managed fleet in Mallorca. Bluebnc works with Blueward Marine as its marine engineering company. Captains and managers therefore have a local route for coordinating technical attendance, workshop support and planned maintenance through the two companies.

Systems on these Riva models

  1. 01

    Main engines

The published 44 Rivarama package uses twin 700 hp MAN D2876LE401 diesels. Initial assessment covers fault history, oil and coolant condition, belts, mounts, exhaust condition and evidence of fuel or coolant leakage. Cooling performance deserves close attention after prolonged high-load running in Mallorca’s summer heat.

  2. 02

    V Drive propulsion

Rivarama records identify a V Drive arrangement, while the 2003 test specifies ZF-3251VTS dual-speed transmissions and four-blade bronze propellers. Inspect transmission oil and coolers, mount security, engagement behaviour, shaft seals and alignment first. A vibration report should be tied to engine speed, vessel speed, load and recent grounding or propeller work.

  3. 03

    Air-conditioning circuit

The 2003 test boat carried 23,000 Btu Marine Air air conditioning. In Mallorca, engineers first assess seawater flow, strainer and condenser condition, pump operation, electrical load, air temperatures and condensate drainage. Low flow and fouled heat exchange become more significant in warm summer water, especially when cooling demand remains high for long periods.

  4. 04

    Deck hydraulics

Published 44 Rivarama equipment includes an electro-hydraulic canopy and Besenzoni passerelle. JAD & JULIA’s listing identifies an electro-hydraulic bimini, concealed Besenzoni passerelle and electric swim ladder. Engineers first cycle each function, then inspect fluid level, hoses, cylinders, relays, limit switches and secure stowage to separate hydraulic leakage from electrical or mechanical faults.

Questions captains ask

The 2003 test installation used ZF-3251VTS dual-speed transmissions with four-blade bronze propellers. An engineer checks oil condition, cooler performance, mounts and engagement in both operating ranges, then relates any vibration to engine speed, shaft speed and load. Shaft seals, alignment and propeller condition are assessed as part of the same propulsion investigation.

Warm seawater reduces cooling margin, while Posidonia and sand can restrict strainers and raw-water flow. On the published twin 700 hp MAN installation, the first checks are strainer loading, impeller condition, exchanger temperature difference, exhaust-water discharge and engine-room ventilation. Repeated temperature rise under load points the investigation towards flow restriction, fouling or ventilation performance.

The published 44 Rivarama equipment includes an electro-hydraulic canopy and Besenzoni passerelle; JAD & JULIA’s listing also identifies an electric swim ladder. Service starts by cycling each function, checking the hydraulic reservoir, hoses, cylinders, electrical protection and limit switches, then verifying secure stowage. Slow or uneven movement is separated into hydraulic, electrical and mechanical causes.
