Fjord yacht service in Mallorca

Blueward Marine services and repairs Fjord 52 Open and 48 Open yachts in Mallorca. Work covers Volvo Penta diesel engines, IPS pods and EVC controls, cooling and air-conditioning circuits, electrical systems, hydraulics and powered deck equipment.

Fjord began as Fjord Plast in Norway in the late 1950s and has been part of HanseYachts AG since 2005.

Fjord yachts in the Bluebnc managed fleet

Bluebnc Yachting, our sister company, manages these yachts in Mallorca and works with Blueward Marine as its engineering company. Yacht figures come from each yacht's public Bluebnc listing; model figures come from the builder documents and tests listed at the foot of the page. Bluebnc Yachting

Fjord's 2020 brochure specifies twin Volvo Penta IPS700 as standard, with twin IPS800 or triple IPS650 options, all using IPS pod propulsion. It gives 16.36 m LOA and 2,080 litres of fuel. PETITCHET is listed by Bluebnc as a 2021 52 Open with 1,200 HP total, air conditioning and a hydraulic swim platform, and is part of its managed fleet in Mallorca.

2 x IPS700 standard; 2 x IPS800 or 3 x IPS650 options
Drive
Volvo Penta IPS pods, EVC and joystick

First checks on this model

  • Record engine, pod and EVC serial numbers, running hours and stored alarms before selecting the maintenance schedule or ordering service parts.
  • Inspect every IPS pod for propeller damage, fishing line, anode loss, seal leakage and oil condition during each scheduled lift.
  • Clean seawater strainers and verify engine cooling flow under load, watching for Posidonia, sand accumulation and high-temperature events.
  • Cycle PETITCHET's hydraulic swim platform through full travel, checking hoses, fittings, locks, fluid level, controls and safe stopping.

Period tests specify the Fjord 48 Open with Volvo Penta D6-IPS600 power, using either two or three 435 hp engines and steerable IPS pods. BOMBON is listed by Bluebnc as a 2018 boat of 15.4 m, with three Volvo Penta D6 diesels at 435 hp each and 1,305 HP total. That total is consistent with the published triple-engine option.

Engines (published)
2 or 3 x Volvo Penta D6-IPS600, 435 hp each
Drive
Volvo Penta IPS600 pods, EVC and joystick

First checks on this model

  • Connect to EVC and compare stored faults, helm indications, joystick response and steering movement across all three propulsion channels.
  • Inspect all three IPS propeller sets, pod housings, anodes, seals and oil, noting any unequal fouling or impact damage.
  • Check each D6 cooling circuit, seawater strainer, belt drive and charge-air path for restrictions, leakage and heat-related deterioration.
  • Test BOMBON's sliding hardtop and retractable electric gangway, including tracks, drains, limit operation, wiring, supply voltage and protective devices.

Published specifications change with build year and options. Before ordering parts we confirm engine, drive and equipment serial numbers on board.

About Fjord

  • 01

Fjord began with GRP boatbuilding in Norway in the late 1950s and joined HanseYachts AG in 2005. HanseYachts describes in-house GRP hull fabrication, CNC interior production and final assembly. For engineering work, this production background matters less than the installed machinery package, particularly on the 52 Open, whose published IPS choices changed during its 2017-2021 production run.

  • 02

The 48 Open and 52 Open use Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, combining diesel engines, steerable pods, forward-facing counter-rotating propellers and EVC. Mallorca's warm seawater and summer heat put cooling flow, pod condition and engine-room ventilation high on the inspection list. Strainers can collect Posidonia and sand, while short operating turnarounds make alarm history, fluid condition and joystick function important before release.

  • 03

PETITCHET, a 2021 Fjord 52 Open, and BOMBON, a 2018 Fjord 48 Open, are in the Bluebnc Yachting managed fleet in Mallorca. Bluebnc works with Blueward Marine as its marine engineering company. Blueward's Palma workshop and mobile engineering team handle engine, pod, cooling, electrical, hydraulic and deck-equipment work across Mallorca and the Balearics.

Systems on these Fjord models

  1. 01

    Main engines

On the 48 Open, period specifications pair D6-IPS600 engines with the IPS driveline. The 52 Open had twin and triple IPS choices. Engineers first review hours, EVC alarms, oil and coolant condition, filters, belts, fuel supply and seawater flow. Uneven temperatures or loading between engines can identify a developing cooling, control or propulsion fault before a summer operating schedule is disrupted.

  2. 02

    IPS pod drives

IPS integrates the engine, steerable pod, forward-facing counter-rotating propellers and EVC controls. Initial checks cover pod oil, seals, anodes, propeller condition, steering movement, joystick response and recorded faults. Twin and triple installations must be assessed as complete systems, as unequal fouling, impact damage or control behaviour can produce vibration, steering complaints or uneven engine loading.

  3. 03

    Cooling and HVAC

Both managed-fleet yachts list air conditioning. Start with seawater strainers, pump flow, condenser condition, electrical load and condensate drainage. On the propulsion side, verify coolant level, heat-exchanger performance and exhaust-water flow. Warm seawater, summer ambient temperatures and Posidonia or sand in the intake can turn marginal flow into intermittent high-temperature alarms.

  4. 04

    Deck mechanisms

Fjord published hydraulic hi-lo platform options for both models. PETITCHET lists a hydraulic swim platform, while BOMBON lists a sliding hardtop and retractable electric gangway. Inspect hydraulic hoses, fittings, actuators, locks and fluid condition, then test electrical feeds, limit operation, tracks, drains and protective devices. Safe stopping and secure stowage should be proved through the complete travel range.

Questions captains ask

The 48 Open was published with twin or triple D6-IPS600 installations. Fjord's 2020 52 Open brochure specifies twin IPS700 as standard, with twin IPS800 and triple IPS650 options. BOMBON's listed 1,305 HP total is consistent with the period triple 435 hp arrangement. Pod count and rating affect service quantities, parts planning, diagnostics and lift-out inspection time.

On either model, inspect both counter-rotating propellers on every pod for impact marks, bent blades, fishing line, corrosion and unequal fouling. Check the surrounding pod housing, anodes, seals and oil condition at the same time. After launch, compare vibration, steering response, EVC alarms and engine loading across the complete twin or triple installation.

PETITCHET's listed hydraulic platform requires checks of hoses, fittings, fluid, actuators, locks, controls and safe stopping. BOMBON's listed sliding hardtop and retractable electric gangway require inspection of tracks, drains, wiring, switches, limit operation and supply voltage. These systems should travel smoothly, stop correctly and remain secure when stowed, without leaks or excessive electrical load.
